While Frank Venning and JJ Betts from the RLSSQ had plans in mind for this expansion of swimming and lifesaving on the North Coast, they were however based in Brisbane.
[FO Venning was the baths manager of the Booroodabin Baths (adjacent to where the Valley Pool now stands), and secretary of the RLSSQ, while JJ Betts was the Brisbane Gymnasium operator.]
A Chronicle article appeared on page 5 on 14th January 1916, which announced that the Mill was henceforth going to provide a "cast-iron" timetable, connecting regularly with motorboats at Deepwater.
At 3pm on Saturday 15th January, at Dean's boat shed, a meeting was held at which "In the absence of the president and vice presidents, Mr. O. Youngman was voted to the chair." (Nambour Chronicle 21/1/1916 p. 7)
Items agreed upon at that meeting included:
- The annual subscription fee was 2s and 6d per annum;
- affiliation fee of 10s 6d to be sent to the head centre;
- colours of Royal Blue Canadian costumes with white edges, prices for which the Treasurer (Jack Parry), consented to obtain...
- while the secretary was asked to collect surplus funds belong to the club.
- The secretary was further instructed to arrange a public meeting for distribution of certificates to be held at Nambour when Mr J T Lowe (Patron) was to be asked to officiate.
The Chronicle subsequently reported (4/2/1916 p. 7) that the presentation took place on Sunday 30th January in Nambour, when the photo of the Brisbane reel squad was handed to Mr Lowe by two visiting RLSSQ Brisbane based representatives.
