maroochydore slsc centenary

The Maroochydore Branch of the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSSQ) was formed on 1 January 1916, at a meeting in a tent at the Cotton Tree Camping Reserve. There were two "Reel Squads", one from Bli Bli and one from Maroochydore. 5 dramatic rescues were performed by the Squads on Maroochydore Beach the next day.

Maroochydore was the dominant Royal club in competition between 1923 and the formation of Surf Life Saving Queensland in 1931.

Maroochydore was crowned the inaugural Champion Club of Queensland at the first State Surf Lifesaving Championships held at Coolangatta in 1932. Maroochydore SLSC hosted the second Queensland Surf Championships in 1933.
